April 10th, 2025 | First Responders recognized for Field Save

Five firefighters standing in front of fire trucks outside a station.

On December 30th, at approximately 1:13 in the morning, E15-2 was dispatched to a report of a cardiac arrest (pulseless and not breathing) in the Morada area neighborhood. E15-2, having just cleared an outside fire, went responding immediately and arrived on scene in two minutes and nineteen seconds with AMR paramedics. CPR and ALS interventions were initiated, and the patient was transported to a local hospital in critical, but stable condition. Waterloo Morada Fire District is proud to announce that the patient survived and walked out of the hospital with minor injuries and no known deficits.
Many factors contributed to the successful response, but bystander CPR is the biggest. When a patient is in cardiac arrest, every minute that passes will decrease the survival rate by 8-10%. We cannot stress enough the benefits of learning hands on CPR.
We are very proud of our crew and AMR on their successful field save.
